I recorded my first live broadcast using Happs.tv just yesterday. I’ve made the switch because Periscope is shutting things down this coming March. So sad, I know.
I’d like to figure out how to broadcast live on this blog, but in the meantime, feel free to follow my live broadcasts by going to Happs: http://happs.tv/invite/@DavTravels.
I have some slightly disheartening news (at least it is for me): I’ve decided to postpone Scotland 9. When I came home from Scotland 8, early last year, I had hoped that by the end of 2020, COVID-19 would have been eradicated. Little did I know that the beginning of 2021 would be the early days of the vaccine, and we’d still be experiencing outbreaks. On the plus side, however, both of the places I’d booked to stay have given me a full refund (thank you, Airbnb and Hostelworld!)! I’m pretty sure Country to Country in Glasgow is going to cancel (no room for social distancing there), and I’ll get a full refund for those tickets. The only refund I’m worried about is the Theatre tickets (I’d planned on staying a couple weeks in London this time).
Norwegian had already canceled my one-way flight in the fall. I was flying on points, since they’d also canceled my home-bound flight last year. I hope those points don’t expire before I have the opportunity to use them. I wonder if it’s too late to cash them out.
Have you had to cancel or change your own travel plans?
Rest In Peace, Butch.
Let’s talk about the Grand Canyon! One of my nieces recently posted a picture of her kids standing next to the edge. I have so many great memories of this national park! When I was young, my Uncle Jim and Aunt Dixie lived in the park, where he worked as a park ranger. Some of my very favorite memories were riding up to the canyon from southeastern Arizona, where I grew up.
My cousin Carrie, who has since passed on, and I would, on occasion, walk down the trail. This was from the south rim, where they lived. There was a point in the hike where it was posted that you shouldn’t go any further without water. That was usually the point where we’d turn around and head back up to the top.
I miss those days so much! Enough, at least, that the Grand Canyon made it on to my bucket list twice. I have been back a couple times since then, but only for quick overnight visits. It would be wonderful to spend some time there, once again. Number 42 on my bucket list is to hike the canyon from rim to rim. Number 43 is to fly over the canyon on a helicopter. Who wants to go with me?
