I wanted to start the year by reaching out to everyone who follows this blog, my travels, or supports me in any way! I hope you survived 2023 and that this new year is even better for you! Even though it’s often a waste of my time, I’m all about setting new resolutions. This year is all about refocusing on previous goals that I’ve set for myself. One of these is my social media game.
The reason I have been neglecting this blog is plain and simple: I have spread myself too thin in the social media world. I was just looking at my phone and counted that I have 21 different social media apps, and I’m trying to post to all of them, some more consistently than others. I know that sounds extreme, and I agree that it is. So my question is this: Which social media accounts do you actively (or not so actively) follow? Right now, I’m trying to have a presence on the following:
- The Clapper app is pretty much trying to copy TikTok. So far, it’s been good for a conspiracy theory or two. I haven’t posted in a while, however. I’ll probably only post there occasionally unless it starts to gain popularity.
- My personal Facebook is to connect with people I’ve already met in the real world. I usually don’t add someone as a friend until I have met them and know they’re not psychotic. I do, however, have a Facebook page for this blog. I can send people there who want to connect, but I haven’t had the opportunity to get to know them yet.
- I use Gab Social to post YouTube links. I haven’t had much interaction with others there, however. My plan is to keep doing what I’ve been doing.
- I use GETTR to post YouTube links. It seems to be a good place for political discourse, and I do want to know what’s happening in the world, but I haven’t engaged much with others there. My plan is to continue what I’ve been doing what I’ve been doing.
- My Instagram account will be primarily work-related travel posts but I’ll also post links to my YouTube episodes.
- I set up an account on Jabburr. I’m really not impressed so far. I’ll post YouTube links there, but I may stop posting there altogether.
- I’m not even sure why I am on LinkedIn. I joined it so my friends could connect with me via their work life. I don’t post there; I am only staying to help others with their connections.
- Lyf is an app that I have never actually posted to, but it takes a different approach to helping people share their experiences and get feedback. It seems to be a good space for mental health. I’ll occasionally take a look, but haven’t really had use for posting there, as of yet.
- I will compare MeWe to Jabburr. I really don’t have much use for it yet. However, it does seem to have more people engaged in conversation there. I’ll probably keep using it to post links to YouTube episodes. The way that MeWe organizes its groups is like clawing at a chalkboard.
- I tried to set up a Patreon, but nobody in my close social realm seems interested in paying for content. Perhaps I need to start sharing more personal gossip? For now, I have unpublished my site on this platform. Maybe people will show interest in the future?
- Reddit is another social media site that bugs me. I don’t like how information is presented, but I keep posting there because so many people use it. Perhaps my attitude will change in the future. I’ll keep posting YouTube episode links under my own profile.
- Rumble seems to be the next YouTube, but few people have interacted with me, so I’m less likely to post there. I follow a few political people there but haven’t interacted much.
- I use Swarm to just check in at places. Do you remember Foursquare? It’s like a fancier version for letting people know where you are. When you check in to places more often, you can eventually become the “mayor” of that location, so it becomes some sort of competition among those you’re connected with. It’s pretty fun.
- I post on Threads, but I’m skeptical. I have never liked Meta’s desire to censor because their fact-checkers are politically motivated. I know plenty of conservative voices just because Zuckerberg is a socialist. I’ll continue to post YouTube links there for now, but they seem to just be copying X. Hopefully the platform develops into something unique.
- I occasionally post to TikTok. I like its popularity, and I love spending way too much time scrolling other people’s posts there. I’d like a more significant presence there, but I haven’t figured out how to make that happen yet.
- TruthSocial is pretty much like GETTR. I only joined to hear what Trump was saying, but haven’t used it much. I will continue to post my YouTube links there, however.
- Tumblr used to be better. It seems that so many people are using it for hookups, though. I do use it to read about people’s travel posts and will continue. I also post my YouTube links there.
- VERO is a newer platform that seems more focused on professional and amateur photographers and videographers. I have been using it to post a bit, but may start using it for a “featured” photo or video from a YouTube post. The community there seems to be very kind and friendly.
- I use the Jetpack app to post to WordPress (this blog). My plan is not only to start posting here again but also to backdate some posts I missed in the past, such as past YouTube episode links.
- I love posting on X (formerly Twitter). I’ve been using it as a mini-blog, and it’s been good. I applied to monetize, but that was over a month ago, and I haven’t heard back from them yet. Once approved, I think I’ll use the platform to share more personal posts, drawings, etc., for paid subscribers. I want to use it like Patreon since people don’t want to follow another site. I think of a $4 monthly price point. I am developing a game plan of what I’ll give subscribers, but I will also have other posts for non-subscribers.
- My main focus has been and will continue to be, YouTube. I enjoy sharing my travel episodes and hope to post Shorts more often. It would be amazing to have that as a second income. If I could travel more and show everyone more places, that would be amazing! By the way, if we are not connected there yet, I’d love to connect!
So, I guess my focus is mainly on Facebook, X, and YouTube. Are you very active on social media? On which platform do you interact the most? I’d love to connect with you if we haven’t connected yet. I’m always looking to connect with others who inspire me.
